Moonclan: The full moon one cloudy night in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Iceclan: One of the cats on my grandma's farm in Sadovo, Bulgaria. Waterclan: The ray-y sky in Sadovo, Bulgaria. I overlayed water drops to make it more watery. Leapclan: A rock in this small clearing on my grandma's farm. Starclan: Fireworks (sorry, no stars in Bulgaria) seen out my back balcony in Plovdiv. Fireclan: The sunset behind one of the buildings in Plovdiv. Mountainclan: There was a rainbow one day a few weeks ago and I took a few pictures of it. (Plovdiv, view from my front balcony) Darkclan: The trees, seen out my front balcony in Plovdiv. Dewclan: Drops of water I put on some plants on my front balcony (Plovdiv.) Streamclan: Water on a mirror with a blue towel held over it so it turns blue. Sorry guys; no streams in Bulgaria that are within desirable walking distance. Treeclan: A tree in this one park. Plovdiv.

At some point Emen must have fallen asleep because when she opened her eyes the sun was peaking above the horizon and she was still in her gown from the night before. She felt something warm and heavy over her feet and looked down to see Lario sprawled across them on his back, feet in the air and twitching slightly every few seconds. She couldn't help but smile at him. He opened one eye and looked up at Emen before quickly flipping over and jumping off the bed, as if he'd never been there in the first place like a common cat. "I didn't mean to wake you up," she apologised. "It's ok, I'm not entirely sure that we need to sleep," he shrugged. "Of course you don't," Emen muttered. She was realising just how little she actually knew about Enders. There were some things that were never talked about, their sleeping habits were apparently one of them. "I need to get changed, you have to leave." Lario nodded and padded softly to the door. As she closed it on him she knew he'd sit outside and wait for her to open it again. He'd already sat down. She got changed as fast as she could, discarding the gown her mother had modified for her and wearing plain brown travelling clothes. At first she left the gown on her bed but after a second rolled it up and stuffed it into her pack to take with her. She left the silver necklace on and hoped her mother wouldn't mind too much that she'd never see it again. She opened the door for Lario again, picked up her pack and the heavy wooden chest and both left for the Render camp where her mother, father, brother and sisters would be waiting. The camp wasn't much different from the last time she'd visited, it seemed quite a bit smaller. As the oldest she had been the only possible Sundered of the year, and turned out to be the only Halcyn, too. The only other person from Everything who was leaving for Rend was Baard. The old man was stood beside a carriage attached to two horses. The carriage was filled with supplies that had been traded from Everything and other nearby towns, as well as more than enough food for the journey back. The black and white striped horse stood next to him, with several bags strapped to her back. One of the Renders helped Baard into the carriage. Emen was glad to see that he wouldn't have to walk or ride all the way to Rend, she wasn't sure he would have made the journey. The man was still there, tending to a brown horse. Emen couldn't remember his name and felt bad, but kept quiet hoping to hear someone else mention it and save her the embarrassment. When he saw her approaching he patted the horse and waved. "Have you come to gloat?" he smiled before flicking his gaze to her wooden chest and realising that she was joining them. He pulled a face and turned back to the horse. "Oh. Sorry. Anyway, this horse is yours, she's strong enough to carry your things, do you know how to ride?" Emen nodded. Her mother claimed that in her city everyone rode on humped camels. She'd wanted to teach her children to ride camels but there was a distinct lack of them in Everything, so she'd settled on horses. Emen had also spent a year working in the stables and had been given lessons after she'd finished her work. She was glad of all the practice now. Rend was over a week away. With the man's help she attached the chest to the horse then left her with him to go and see her family sitting around the fire. She was very aware that this would be the last time she'd ever see them. She wasn't as sad as she thought she'd be. Everything was happening so fast that it didn't seem real. "Goodbye Emen. I have something for you," her father said gruffly and pulled her into a hug. His big strong arms wrapped around her for a few seconds before releasing her. When she was free of his arms he picked up a long wrapped package from the ground. As she pulled the cloth back she uncovered a sword engraved with various golden patterns and shapes. Aside from the markings it was very simple. "We didn't have much time to work on it," he apologised. She recognised the symbols as Heran's work, they curved and swirled gracefully along the metal. Her brother smiled and winked at her from his seat. "Risuro spent the whole night preparing that sword," Heran explained. There were many in various states of completion around the house and forge and plenty of people employed to work there. "Thank you," was all Emen could think to say. She hadn't been expecting gifts, but a sword fit her father perfectly. Nothing if not completely practical, Emen knew she'd have to learn to use one quickly. With barely any magic or Enders, she wondered how Rend defended itself against constant threats. Cotia, or maybe it was Tyfia; she still had trouble telling them apart when they dressed identically, waited only until she'd put the sword down before hugging her. She pressed a small doll into her hand with tears in her young eyes. "You keep that doll and we keep the other so you'll never forget us." "Why do you have to go?" Tyfia, or maybe Cotia, asked. She held an identical doll and Emen noticed that the two dolls looked like her except with bushy golden hair she thought might be Lario's mane. "I could never forget my sisters. Me and Lario, we're needed somewhere else. You've got Heran to look after you and he's all Everything needs to keep safe," she told the two girls. They nodded but Emen wasn't sure they entirely understood that she was leaving forever. One of the Renders, an older balding man with thin grey hair called to Emen from beside the carriage, where her mare stood ready to leave. A brown wolf with green spots dusted across it's flanks sat beside him. As well as the old and unwanted, a small amount of Bonded humans and Enders, often without family of their own, volunteered to live in Rend and helped protect the city from attacks. The man appeared to be one of them. The sight cheered her, at least they probably wouldn't die during the journey with him to protect them. Green and brown were the colours of life magic which marked the man for a healer. "We need to be setting off now, we have a long way to go before dark," he said. He didn't seem too bothered, Emen guessed he must be used to tearing people away from their families. She vaguely recognised him as someone who came to Everything every year. She wondered where he was from and if he had any family to miss. His rough, hard face made it difficult for her to sympathise with him and she couldn't imagine him being close to any family like she was to Heran. Emen reluctantly left the fire as the man put it out and mounted her horse. She tucked her doll safely into her pack and attached the wrapped sword to the top of her wooden chest. After a final check the man climbed into the front seat of the carriage and set the horses walking. Baard's striped Ender plodded alongside the carriage and a handful of other Renders joined it. "Goodbye Emen. I'll stop at Rend the next time I go south," her mother said. She grabbed Emen's hand and held it tightly for a few seconds, not wanting to let her daughter leave. The young man from Everything, atop his own black gelding rode over to her as the carriage slowly grew smaller. "Gerran will leave you behind if you're not fast enough," he said, glancing awkwardly at her parents. "Then we'd better hurry up," she responded in a small voice. She waved to her family for a final time and then turned her brown mare and followed the man to catch up with the carriage.
